Glass Tile Designs and Tips
Glass Tile can give a dramatic appearance to any type of tile installation. Most glass tiles are one inch squares or smaller that come on a one square foot sheet. You can expect to see a huge selection available at home improvement and tile stores. Just about any color imaginable including iridescent glass tile. Having installed a fair amount of glass mosaics, the most common areas in a house are generally a backsplash in a kitchen or bathroom. Another place would be used as an accent about eye level at a shower. Tile design ideas could range from just a few rows out of a full sheet running horizontal across all the walls to a dot design idea at strategic locations. Tile layout is critical for optimum results so plan on spending some time with this step. Even the "tile all the walls" request has been used which is a little much in my opion as I tend to prefer and keep tile design ideas on the simple side. You can always dress up your bathroom or kitchen with paint, pictures, and linens to tie everything together.
Glass tile mosaics require very flat tile substrates in order to achieve a "flat finish". Any waves in the the wall will be noticable due to the size of the tile and will have a less than desirable finish look. Also keep in mind that glass tile is thinner than most other tiles. A ceramictilepro will add extra thinset in order to have the glass tile finish flush with the rest of the tile. Ther are a few TIPS and TRICKS I like to use when it comes to working with different thickness tiles. Anytime intricut tile design ideas are used, you should allow extra time in completing your project. It is very hard to rush through a job that has alot of detail. Take your time and do the project right the first time and avoid the frustration of being uncomfortable with a less than desirable project.
